The screw set contains the same number and types of screws supplied with the Starter Outworld, including the four smaller screws used to attach the PLA surround to the removable acrylic lid.

The two modular ports can both be used at the same time, or one can be closed using the supplied blanking connector.

The Medium Outworld uses the current Antastic Tom modular connector system and is compatible with all current Antastic Tom modular products.

The two connection points allow the outworld to:

• Connect a nest and an additional module
• Join two parts of a larger modular setup
• Connect two nests where appropriate
• Keep one port closed until future expansion is required

The Medium Outworld is designed for growing colonies that need more feeding and foraging space than the Starter Outworld can comfortably provide.

It is best suited to:

• Colonies beginning to outgrow the Starter Outworld
• Established colonies with increased worker activity
• Colonies requiring more than one feeding or drinking station
• Larger-bodied species that use floor space quickly
• Modular setups that need two connection points
• Keepers preparing for gradual future expansion
  

The Medium Outworld gives colonies more usable space while remaining compact enough for straightforward feeding, observation and cleaning.

There is no fixed worker count for moving into it. Consider the size and activity of the species, how crowded the existing outworld has become and whether feeding or cleaning is becoming difficult.

The Medium Outworld is supplied as a self-assembly product.

1. Fit the acrylic walls

Place each of the four acrylic wall panels into the corresponding grooves in the PLA base.

Make sure each panel is:

• Fully seated in its groove
• Positioned vertically
• Correctly aligned with the adjoining panels
• Facing the correct direction before tightening any screws
  

Secure the walls to the lower PLA uprights using the supplied main body screws.

Leave the screws slightly loose until all four panels are correctly positioned.

2. Install the triangular corner anchors

Place one triangular anchor into each upper corner.

Each anchor joins two acrylic walls at a 90-degree angle. Fit the appropriate screw through each adjoining wall and into the anchor.

Tighten the screws gradually, moving between corners so that the structure remains square.

3. Attach the acrylic top panel

Place the acrylic top panel over the assembled walls

Secure the top panel to the four triangular corner anchors using the supplied screws.

Check that:

• The top panel sits flat
• All four wall panels remain seated in the base grooves
• The corners are square
• There are no visible gaps between panels
  

4. Assemble the removable lid

Position the PLA surround over the removable acrylic lid.

Attach the surround using the four smaller screws supplied for the lid assembly. Tighten only until the acrylic is held securely.

Place the completed lid into the cut-out in the top panel and check that it sits flat.

5. Configure the modular connections

The Medium Outworld has two connection points.

You can:

• Fit both supplied nest-to-module connectors
• Fit one modular connector and close the second port using the blanking connector
• Change the configuration later as the colony’s setup expands
  

Fit a TPU retention clip above each modular connector being used. The clips help prevent connectors from being pulled or knocked out accidentally.

If a connection point is not being used, close it securely with the supplied blanking connector.

6. Prepare the outworld

Place food, sugar sources and water feeders on removable dishes where possible.

Keep the central floor area reasonably clear so that waste and leftover food remain easy to identify and remove.

Check every wall, lid and modular connection before allowing the colony access.

What is the difference between the Starter and Medium Outworld?

The Medium Outworld provides more usable floor space and has two modular connection points rather than one.

It is intended for growing colonies that need more room for feeding, waste disposal and general foraging activity.

When should I upgrade from the Starter Outworld?

Upgrade when the colony frequently crowds the available space, feeding becomes difficult, waste builds up quickly or several feeders can no longer be positioned comfortably.

Occasional exploration of the whole outworld does not necessarily mean an immediate upgrade is required.

What are the two connection points for?

The two ports allow the Medium Outworld to connect multiple parts of a modular setup.

For example, one port could connect to a nest while the second connects to a feeding module, another nest or a future expansion.

Do I need to use both connection points?

No. Use the supplied blanking connector to close any unused port securely.

The second port can remain closed until the colony or setup requires it.

Why are two modular connectors included?

Two connectors are supplied so both connection points can be used simultaneously when required.

If only one is needed, the other connector can be kept for future expansion.

What are the retention clips for?

The TPU retention clips fit above the modular connectors and help prevent them from being pulled or knocked out accidentally.

Use one clip for each modular connector fitted to the outworld.

Does the Medium Outworld arrive assembled?

No. It is supplied as a self-assembly product using acrylic panels, a grooved PLA base, triangular corner anchors and the supplied screw set.

Do I need glue?

No glue should be required when the panels are correctly aligned and secured.

Do not glue the removable lid, connectors or blanking plug.

Should I add substrate?

Substrate is optional.

A bare or lightly covered floor is generally easier to maintain. Any substrate used should remain clear of the wall grooves, connector ports and removable lid.

Can I connect two nests to it?

Yes, provided both nests use compatible Antastic Tom modular connectors and the arrangement is appropriate for the colony.

The two connection points allow the outworld to act as a central foraging space between multiple modules.

Is it escape-proof?

It is designed to close securely when assembled correctly, but no ant enclosure should be advertised as completely escape-proof.

Correct assembly, secure connectors, retention clips, regular inspections and an appropriate escape barrier remain important.
